My Skin Story: the Past Ten Years

In April 2018, at age 31, a good friend persuaded me to try Botox. She was administering it in her clinic and was eager to smooth out the angry ‘11’ lines that I thought I was hiding with my fringe. Trusting her skill, I gave it a go and have rarely been without it since. I maintain expression in my upper face, but the frown lines are barely visible at rest and appear faint when squinting in the sunlight, which used to cause my whole forehead to scrunch up. Botox has a cumulative effect, so the expression lines become less visible over time.

In the summer of 2019, this same friend needed a model for a course on cheek filler. I agreed, as I had always considered my face a little flat and admired those with lovely high, round, defined cheeks. I was very happy with the result, which gave me a fuller, rounder face, a wider smile, and something to highlight with blusher. After two top-ups, I have not had any for 18 months and can still see the lasting volume and definition. Although tempted to have more, I have paused for now to maintain a natural aesthetic.

Previously, I had limited Botox to my forehead, keeping the smile lines around my eyes. However, in 2022, at 35 years old, I noticed that these smile lines were now extending down my cheek to meet the smile lines around my mouth. So, I added crow’s feet to my Botox routine. I keep these doses low so I can still smile with my eyes while keeping my cheeks smooth.

After providing the skin booster, Profhilo, to my clients for the past year and educating about its ability to increase collagen and elastin production, hydrate the skin from the deeper layers, and give a beautiful glow, I decided to treat myself to this revolutionary product. I have a poor pain threshold and find this treatment quite stingy, but it is absolutely worth it. I immediately noticed a plumping effect at key areas around my cheeks and lips. Over time and four sessions, I can see that my skin is generally more plump and firm, especially around the jaw and jowl area. Dehydrated skin is a thing of the past.

With the help of these subtle treatments to improve the appearance and quality of my skin, I now feel confident to save makeup for special occasions, whereas people used to ask if I was ill when they saw me bare faced!
